March 5

So now the hardest wait is here. Eve is READY to go home as soon as she has 5-7 days without needing O2 or stimulation to breathe. Her last blow-by O2 while feeding was 6 pm Saturday...but then she needed mild stim yesterday at 5 am, also while feeding. Sigh...

She is off nearly all medications except for albuterol through her inhaler. The doctor has already started weaning that so it is now at once every 12 hours.

Eve had her MRI yesterday and results showed her brain as "normal but immature." I asked the doctor on call in five different ways what the "but" meant and finally got an answer. Some (not all) preemies have immature brains. This could effect her development. There will be no follow up MRI. She will be seeing her pediatrician frequently and will also have visits with a high-risk specialist on a regular basis, so if anything doesn't seem "normal," we will go from there. The doctor encouraged lots of interaction, reading to her, and exercises that the therapist will send her home with.

I'm getting nervous for after the homecoming as she can't be around lots of people due to her lungs. The less risk for catching a virus (especially during flu season), the easier for her. I'm stressed about how that will change my work, the kids' activities, etc. Another big sigh....
